Septuagenarians Tie – Knot
David and Lilian Baines were greeted as they left St Saviours Church Hagley following their marriage on Friday 16th July by a guard of honour comprising Members of Stourbridge HF Ramblers who formed an archway of “walking poles”.
The Bride and Bridegroom have been Club members for some two decades after they each retired, and they first met when Lilian gave David a lift in her car to the start of a Club ramble.
They are both active members of the community life in Hagley where Lilian works with the Hagley Help Line, that has recently celebrated 20 years of providing invaluable assistance to pensioners for shopping and transport to Hospital and GP appointments. In the past Lilian was an active member, providing front of house assistance for the Hagley Theatre Group but is now quite happy to be part of the audience at their excellent performances.

The following pubs are closed or under threat of closure The information is provided in good faith for the benefit of walkers and leaders who may be planning to visit the premises in the future. Updates / changes in a pub's status will be welcomed by the editor.
Pubs
affected include:
WORCESTERSHIRE
Elmley Castle - The Queens Head - Apparently the
brewers are demanding an annual rent of £80k - how can that amount be
justified - or realistic!
We now have to start looking to secure our weekends for the spring and autumn of the year 2010, and are looking for members willing to organise these weekends, so come on lets do it.

A very interesting and enjoyable weekend. Though the weather was not kind to us on Friday and Saturday the sun shone on the righteous (Sunday walk leaders Mike & Janet Blaxland, Peter Shakel & Andy Singleton and Ken Partridge.)
Below shows a "mottley crew at Castle Drogo" and "the dreaded stepping stones that many refused and had a difficult route around". Thanks to Colin Buswell for the photos (and captions).

Some 82 Club Members attended the Club Autumn Weekend at Sidmouth East Devon staying at The Royal York & Faulkner Hotel overlooking the Esplanade.
The weather showed off the autumn tints and the fine views from Devon's Coastal paths to perfection and members enjoyed a choice of 4 walks on Saturday and 5 walks on the Sunday.
Feedback has indicated a very enjoyable time was had by all and Brian Taylor was able to show some of his photographic collection of club walks from over the past three years.

Hope Bagot Church Well it's that time in the year when traditionally we as a Club go to Hope Bagot Church in Shropshire to give our assistance to the church organisers to tidy / clear up the churchyard. As many of our club members as possible are required, so would all those interested to carry out this wonderful deed on Saturday 17th July 2010 please contact Des Stokes. As many members are expected to attend, it would be appreciated if garden / small power tools could also be taken to assist with the clearance.

The conclusion to this incredible deed by the Stourbridge HF Rambling Club, which has taken place for at least twenty years was that fifteen volunteers armed with secateurs, rakes, hedge clippers, strimmers etc., decended upon this lovely church and its churchyard to assist church members with the yearly tidy up.
Despite
the poor weather forecast a pleasant day ensued and apart from
a
couple of short, sharp showers, which briefly interupted the work, the
churchyard was once more looking cared for. A splendid lunch was
provided and tastely consumed in the village hall.
Croquet which normally follows in the afternoon did however not take place this year due to the damp conditions.
