Unfortunately the weather did not hold and we arose on the Saturday to be greeted by heavy rain. After the usual hearty breakfast the three walking parties set off on their walks in continuing pouring rain, after two or three hours and with conditions far from conducive to walking, the A and B parties both decided to cut short their plans and beat a rather damp retreat to the house. The C party had the best of the day by visiting the nearby Ruskin House. In the late afternoon those who did venture out were met by wide spread flooding.
Sunday saw a return to the brilliant sunshine and again the three parties set out on their various walks. What a difference a day makes and with the dramatically improved weather this meant that all our walking routes were achieved and a great time was had by all.
A variety of evening entertainment was provided by club members which included card games, quiz and a slide show.

There has been an
enthusiastic response from members to the proposal to help clean up the
local countryside. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for all bar
one of the various authorities.
There has been a deafening silence to direct appeals to the
relevant authorities - only Dudley MBC bothered to reply (extremely
enthusiastically, I might add).
The others who shall be named and shamed are: British Waterways;
Bromsgrove Distict Council; South Staffordshire District Council and
Worcestershire CC. The proposed area - between Stourbridge, Hagley and
Prestwood - falls under one or more of the authorities stated - an
added complication!
The Club needs to have official approval and support from the authorities - due to insurance, health & safety, risk assessments, equipment supply plus logistics (disposal of collected matter). Without that endorsement, it is not advisable to proceed, unless on an individual basis. Thanks to each of the fifteen volunteers who 'signed' up!
Stourbridge,
situated in
the unimaginatively-named, yet accurately-described, West Midlands, is
approximately 20 kms (12 miles) south-west of Birmingham. It is
sandwiched between the Black Country, Staffordshire and Worcestershire.
We are blessed with some magnificent countryside within easy reach -
some as close as a ten minute walk away.
Stourbridge HF Rambling Club (SHFRC) was formed in 1953 and,
over half-a-century later, offers the best and widest choice of walks
of any club in the region.
Walks take place throughout the year on Saturdays, Sundays,
Tuesdays and Wednesdays (plus Thursday evenings in summer). Walk
distances usually range between 4 and 11 miles.
Visitors are welcome on all walks, but must decide whether or not to
join after their third 'free' walk.
Animal pets are not permitted on any club walks.
The annual subscription fee is £5 added to which is a one-off
joining fee of £5. Our membership currently numbers 371 - thankfully
not all walk at the same time!
So if you are a potential new recruit, SHFRC invites you to take up our offer that enables you to enjoy up to three walks - free - before you decide whether or not to join. Click the month of your choice on the right of the Walks Information page and decide which walk you wish to try. We suggest you start off with one of the shorter walks.
We hope that you will find any other information you need to know on the Walk Information page. If you still have an unanswered question, then we invite you to email our Membership Secretary on john.richards@thegavelier.co.uk
Further details regarding club walks are to be found on the Walks Information page.
