Getting Started & Membership

Can I try a walk first? Yes, we welcome visitors to try 3 walks before joining.

Is there a membership fee? Yes, £10 per year plus a one-off £5 joining fee.

How do I find out about walks? Walks are shown on our website calendar and members receive a quarterly programme and weekly email updates, which include the walk leader’s phone number.

How do I join? Complete the Contact Us form on our website and the Membership Secretary will forward an application form and full details.
During the Walk

What should I wear/bring? Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing (layers are good), sturdy walking boots/shoes with good grip, water, snacks, and lunch (if required).

Are dogs allowed? Only assistance dogs are allowed on rambles after agreement with the walk leader.

What happens if it rains? Walks go ahead unless the weather makes conditions hazardous.

Will I get left behind? No, we appoint a "back marker" to ensure no one is left behind.

Are walks suitable for children? Generally, children are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

How long are the walks? Half day walks are typically 5-6 miles and full day walks 8-12 miles. Also 4 mile walks on summer evenings and ad hoc slower walks.

Do I need to book? No, just turn up at the start point and ask for the walk leader.

How do I get to the start? You will need to make your own way to the start point, however car sharing is encouraged.

Should I bring a first-aid kit? It is highly recommended to carry a personal first-aid kit and foil blanket.
