Report Rights of Way Problems
Seen a problem on a walk?
If you come across a blocked, damaged or obstructed public right of way, please report it to the relevant local authority.
Before reporting, try to record:

Where the problem is – a grid reference or precise location is ideal

What the problem is

Which path or route is affected, if known
-
Photos – these can be very useful

Date you encountered the problem
Report a problem
For other counties, visit the relevant county council website and search for "Rights of Way" or "Public Rights of Way".
When completing the council's form, please add SHFRC after your name. This helps the council identify reports made by our members.

Once you've reported the problem to the local authority:

The local authority's reference number

Any second reference number you receive - may be issued a few days after reporting

This enables our RoW Secretary to monitor progress on all complaints submitted and liaise with the PROW departments at the County Councils.
What should you report?
Damaged stiles or gates
Blocked or overgrown paths
Damaged bridges or other structures
Other problems can include missing signs, locked gates, obstructions, dangerous vegetation or paths that are difficult or impossible to use.
